McKinsey maintaining revenues the key to merger success
A new study by McKinsey reveals the key to a successful takeover lies in securing post-merger revenue streams, rather than the more traditional focus on cost-cutting.

Other consultancies, including AT Kearney, Boston Consulting Group, KPMG and PA Consulting, have in recent years produced reports showing mergers typically destroy rather than create value.

The McKinsey report is somewhat different, in that it focusses on what firms must do to be successful, as opposed to highlighting the failure rate. read more
USA consultancy job offers rescinded
In the USA the uncertain economic climate has led to a considerable downturn in spending on consultancy; this has had a pronounced knock-on effect on recruitment:

"It's not a pretty year for consulting, from strategy to IT," said George Stalk, Toronto-based senior vice-president of Boston Consulting Group Inc.

A number of consultancies have asked their university recruits to take longer holidays before joining the firm, and at least one firm has rescinded job offers. read more
