In the USA the uncertain economic climate has led to a considerable downturn in spending on consultancy; this
has had a pronounced knock-on effect on recruitment:
"It's not a pretty year for consulting, from strategy to IT," said George Stalk,
Toronto-based senior vice-president of Boston Consulting Group Inc.
A number of
consultancies have asked their university recruits to take longer holidays before joining the firm, and at least one firm has rescinded job offers.
Bruce Simpson, the McKinsey & Co. partner with responsibility for Canada, believes the slowdown may
actually help the strongest firms because it encourages a flight to quality by clients
and professionals.
