BearingPoint awarded Air Force contract
BearingPoint has been awarded a blanket purchase agreement (BPA) to provide advisory and assistance services for the United States Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century program (AFSO21), including the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools. The Lean Six Sigma BPA spans five years with an award ceiling of $99 million.
AFSO21 is the key strategy to guide continuous process improvement that allows the Air Force to continue evolving while meeting mission-critical needs of today's warfighter. The AFSO21 program borrows some of the best business principles from the corporate world and applies them to Air Force organizations, structure and processes to help identify and eliminate waste: waste of time, waste of manpower and waste of money using Lean Six Sigma.
Leveraging its proven systems-integration capabilities, BearingPoint's scope of work will include assisting in fully integrating continuous process improvement practices, driving institutionalization of AFSO21 and creating self-sufficiency through training and education across the Air Force, primarily through the use of the Lean-management process toolset. The firm has more than 60 years of combined experience in Lean and Six Sigma, and BearingPoint professionals have extensive experience in all aspects of planning, design, development, training and implementation of sustainable Lean and Six Sigma projects with both government and commercial clients.
"This is a critical piece in our framing and execution efforts to expand process improvement across the active duty, Guard and reserve forces," said Brigadier General Taco Gilbert, director of the Air Force Smart Operations Office. "Our Air Force process owners and organizations will have a streamlined means to get highly qualified support as we work to build our internal organic capability of trained AFSO21 facilitators and experts."
"We know how to enable the transformation of organizations where the focus is on driving strategic change and meeting operational goals with efficiency and quality deliverables," said Mark Goulart, senior vice president for BearingPoint's DoD practice. "The Air Force's AFSO21 project is very forward-thinking and demands a results-oriented approach that BearingPoint is well-suited to deliver on given our people, our comprehensive methodologies and our powerful toolkits."
The BearingPoint team for this BPA will include Simpler Consulting, NewVectors, Total Systems Development and VSE Corporation, among others.
