  Following what seemed like a successful disposal of the businesses of Arthur D Little, a dispute has erupted over which of the acquirers may use the ADL name.

Little name is a very valuable asset. Acquiring exclusive rights to this name in all countries and for all activities was an essential component of the Altran bid.”

Altran is objecting to another successful bidder – Tiax – using the name outside the US. Altran is allowing successful bidders to use the title “formerly ADL” but only within the US and for a limited time period of 6 months.

Tiax LLC, formed specifically to buy Arthur D. Little's Technology and Innovation practice, wanted to market itself worldwide as the former "ADL Innovations". Altran, who will be investing in strengthening the ADL brand outside the US, have blocked any use of the name outside the US.

If the dispute is not settled then the Tiax buyout could be threatened.
