Publication of Management Consultancy's Top 75 league table of consulting firms has made possible a startling analysis of the online recruitment market for management consultants.

A staggering 28 of the Top 30 consulting firms have recently either appeared on the Top-Consultant.com jobs board or at one of Top-Consultant's recent careers events. Of these Top 30 firms, only McKinsey and Bain are missing from the Top-Consultant portfolio – and these are firms that have simply not needed to run advertising campaigns to attract candidates in recent years, such is the strength of their brands and the candidate enthusiasm for joining them.
Assessing the full Top 75 list, 50 have recruited through the Top-Consultant channel and the major brands all now have a constant presence on the site. Further online research highlights the domination of Top-Consultant with seemingly no other job board having more than 15 of the Top 75 on their client lists and indeed most executive boards having only 5 or so consultancies amongst their client list.
This concentration of client activity on the sector's only specialist jobs board explains the findings of research conducted earlier this year in which over 75% of consulting candidates stated they regularly used Top-Consultant to track down their next consulting job. Only one other job board was regularly used by more than 30% of consulting candidates.
Commenting on the findings, Top-Consultant Director Tony Restell stated: ''We are obviously delighted by the picture that is painted by analysis of this year's Top 75 results. An independent ranking of the consulting industry allows us all to appreciate what we have achieved to date and what work there still remains for us to do."
"Looking to the boom period that lies ahead for consultancy recruitment, we see one of the biggest opportunities as the use of online adverts to generate face-to-face candidate interaction. Most candidates have an idea of the handful of firms they would choose to apply to – but that leaves dozens of firms about which they know very little. Using online adverts to attract candidates along to careers evenings or open days can convince a whole new pool of candidates to apply to a firm that they otherwise would not have considered."
Commenting on the rise of careers events in recent months Restell added:
"This is the next phase for the development of online recruitment. It's a bit like attracting wavering voters during a tight general election. Those candidates that already like your firm enough to apply are the low-lying fruits in online recruitment, but what you really need in a tight candidate market is to get more candidates interested in your firm.
That's in part why we decided to organise a massive Careers Fair for consulting candidates. Bringing thousands of recruiters and candidates together in one place is sure to spark new interest that company job adverts alone could never have sparked. The fantastic uptake we have had from the World's leading consultancies clearly shows they see this potential too."
The Management Consultancy Careers Fair, organised in partnership with the Management Consultancies Association, takes place at London Olympia on 7th October. Confirmed exhibitors include Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, IBM Business Consulting Services and PA Consulting Group. Full details can be found at:
