Robert M. Howe, whose experience spans more than 30 years in the fields of information technology and business consulting services, is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Scient Incorporated.
“Bob is a recognized leader in global IT consulting and a visionary who helped define and shape our industry,” said AMS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alfred T. Mockett. “Bob's knowledge and experience in both building and growing companies, and in leading one of the world's largest corporations, will greatly benefit AMS and its shareholders. We welcome Bob to the AMS Board of Directors.”
As former Chairman of Scient Incorporated, he helped start the company as its CEO and grew it to more than 2,000 professionals in two years. Scient, which specialized in eBusiness and emerging technologies, was sold to SBI and Company in October 2002.
Previously, Howe worked for IBM Corporation from 1991 until 1998. During his tenure he became general manager of IBM's global banking, financial and securities business, overseeing sales and marketing of all IBM products, software and services. He was also responsible for the definition, creation, sales and delivery of solutions for the banking industry — the largest customer base at IBM. In 1991, he founded the IBM Consulting practice. Today it is one of the largest consulting organizations worldwide.
Howe also had a distinguished career with Booz Allen Hamilton where he consulted extensively in the information technology arena. He was the leader of the firm's worldwide commercial systems practice and the worldwide financial services practice. He was elected Senior Vice President in 1986, and served as a member of the Board of Directors for ten years and a member of the firm's executive committee from 1988 to 1991.
Today, Howe serves on the boards of SBI and Company, JohnsonDiversey and NorthStar. He holds a BBA from Southern Methodist University and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
In addition to Mr. Mockett and Mr. Howe, the AMS Board of Directors includes Daniel J. Altobello, chairman, Altobello Family Partners; James J. Forese, former chairman and CEO of IKON Office Solutions, Inc.; Frank Keating, two-term Oklahoma governor and president and chief executive officer of the American Council of Life Insurers; Dorothy Leonard, professor, Harvard University Graduate School of Business; Frederic V. Malek, chairman, Thayer Capital Partners; and Joseph M. Velli, senior executive vice president, The Bank of New York Company.
