MCA elects new president

Pat Newberry of PwC has been elected President of the Management Consultancies Association (MCA), the representative body for management consultancy firms in the UK. The MCA’s 56 member companies comprise around 70% of the UK consulting industry, estimated to be worth £9bn in 2008, employ more than 40,000 consultants and work with over 90 of the top FTSE 100 companies and almost all parts of the public sector.

Newberry has worked for PwC for 32 years and has over 20 years of experience working in the financial services industry. During his career he has led PwC’s global insurance, global actuarial and UK Financial Services consulting practices. He is currently UK head of private sector consulting at PwC, with responsibility for building PwC’s new consulting business in the private sector. He is also a member of PwC’s supervisory board.

Commenting on his election, Newberry said: “I am delighted to be elected President of the MCA. The consulting industry is under the spotlight and a major aim of the MCA for 2010 is to continue to demonstrate the significant value that consulting adds, both to our clients and the economy. I look forward to working with the MCA team and fellow consultants within the membership to show how our industry is a positive force for the economy. ”

Speaking about Newberry’s election, Alan Leaman, Chief Executive of the MCA, said: “We are delighted that Pat has been elected as President of the MCA. His strong reputation and profile in the industry and beyond will be a great asset during the year.”

• David Cox, Managing Director, Business & Technology Consulting Division, Mott MacDonald

• Steve Watmough, Managing Director, Xantus Consulting
