BearingPoint wins Iraq economics reconstruction contract |
| |
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded a $20 million contract to BearingPoint to develop and implement international economic practices in Iraq.
The aim of the three-year contract is to improve economic governance in Iraq and develop a policy framework that will allow for private sector-led growth in the country. The contract is expected to assist in reforming tax, fiscal and customs policies. The policies of Iraq's Central Bank will also be redrawn to align them with policies accepted by the International Monetary Fund.
Under the terms of the contract, BearingPoint will also work with the Iraq Ministry of Finance to develop a modern banking sector and to reform housing finance, commercial law and institutions in order to create an environment that promotes private sector-led growth.
The contract also involves the restructuring of the Iraqi electricity and communications industries to make them commercially viable through adopting international best practices in utilities and creating a policy framework and regulatory environment in the telecom sector, which will foster private sector participation. |
