23/03/2004   TCS setting sights on global bioinformatics market
Tata Consultancy Services is trying to tap the $1.5-bn global bioinformatics market. The firm is to present its software package for biological research at the upcoming Biotech Israel summit.

The suite, named Bio-Suite, contains computational tools and algorithms, which help in deciphering vast amounts of genetic data and protein functions. The software is aimed at expediting drug discovery and bringing down the cost of research by identifying new drug candidates from smaller samples.

TCS estimates that the cost of discovery can fall by almost 25% by using bioinformatics.
